Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and toileting.
- Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
- Assist in the mobilization of patients, including turning, positioning, and transporting patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, and other areas within the facility.
- Provide comfort and support to patients by addressing their physical and emotional needs.
- Clinical Support:
- Prepare patients for medical examinations and treatments, ensuring they are informed and comfortable.
- Assist healthcare professionals during procedures by providing necessary instruments and equipment.
- Report any changes in a patient’s condition to the supervising nurse or physician immediately.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment by following infection control procedures and using protective equipment as needed.
- Documentation:
- Accurately document patient care activities, including intake and output, changes in condition, and any other pertinent information.
- Maintain patient records in accordance with VA policies and procedures, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Patient Safety and Advocacy:
- Ensure the safety of patients by adhering to all safety protocols, including fall prevention and proper use of restraints when necessary.
- Advocate for the needs and preferences of patients, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect at all times.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team to coordinate care and provide updates.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare providers to deliver holistic, patient-centered care.
- Education and Development:
- Participate in ongoing training and education programs to stay current with best practices in nursing care.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new nursing assistants as needed.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. Completion of a state-approved nursing assistant training program.
- Certification: Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) is required. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in a hospital or long-term care facility, is highly desirable.
