Radiation Oncology Physician
About the Role
Emerging Tech, LLC is seeking an ABR-certified Radiation Oncologist to provide high-quality, on-site radiation oncology services at the San Juan VA Medical Center. The physician will deliver safe, evidence-based care in accordance with all VA, VHA, NRC, ACR, ASTRO, and AAPM guidelines, ensuring continuity of clinical operations for Veterans receiving radiation therapy.
This role requires excellence in clinical practice, strict adherence to regulatory standards, and ongoing compliance with credentialing, privileging, infection control, and mandatory VA training.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Treatment
- Provide direct radiation oncology services for Veteran patients, including:
- Clinical consultations, treatment planning, on-treatment visits, follow-up care
- Oversight of IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SBRT, and SRS protocols
- Review and approval of treatment plans, dose distributions, and image guidance
- Collaboration with medical physicists, dosimetrists, RTTs, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ensure all care meets or exceeds standards of practice set by:
- American College of Radiology (ACR)
- American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO)
- American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM)
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain compliance with all VHA directives relevant to clinical operations, safety, quality management, privacy, patient advocacy, infection control, and invasive procedure guidance.
- Document and manage patient care within CPRS/VA EHR, ARIA/Eclipse, and VistA systems.
- Participate in accreditation compliance activities in alignment with VHA Directive 1156 and ASTRO/APEx standards.
- Support the facility through FPPE and OPPE processes as required.
Credentialing / Privileging & Quality Oversight
- Complete and maintain required credentialing through VetPro per VHA Directives 1100.20 and 1100.21.
- Maintain unrestricted medical license and ABR board certification in Radiation Oncology.
- Provide annual CME documentation and proof of competency.
Training & Education Requirements
Must complete all VA-mandated annual training, including (but not limited to):
- BLS
- VA EHR
- Radiation Safety Basics
- Infection control & bloodborne pathogens
- Workplace harassment & active threat training
- Suicide Risk Management (clinician level)
- VA privacy, HIPAA, and information security rules of behavior
- ARIA/Eclipse platform training
- VHA MRI Safety (Level 1)
- VA Video Connect & Virtual Care Manager training
Infection Control & Health Requirements
- Provide proof of:
- Negative TST/IGRA or chest X-ray
- Immunity to MMR & Varicella
- Tdap vaccination
- Annual influenza vaccination
- Comply with OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen requirements, including Hepatitis B vaccination and exposure control documentation.
Coverage & Contingency
- Provide coverage for scheduled clinics and ensure continuity of patient care during absences, leave, or emergencies.
- Provide replacement coverage within 2 hours if unforeseen circumstances prevent completion of an assigned shift.
- Submit qualified backup physicians for credentialing in advance.
Professional Conduct
- Adhere to VA medical staff bylaws, policies, and professional standards.
- Maintain ethical, respectful, and safe interactions with staff, Veterans, and facility personnel.
- Report conflicts of interest, maintain DEA status, and comply with all citizenship and E-Verify requirements.
Qualifications
Required
- M.D. or D.O. with completed ACGME-accredited Radiation Oncology residency
- American Board of Radiology (ABR) Certification in Radiation Oncology (required)
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
- Eligibility for VA credentialing and privileging
- DEA registration
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Demonstrated competency in modern radiation therapy modalities (IMRT, IGRT, SBRT, SRS, VMAT)
- Experience using ARIA/Eclipse or comparable systems
- Strong understanding of ACR/ASTRO/AAPM clinical standards and NRC regulations (10 CFR Parts 19, 20, 30, 33, 35, 71)
Preferred
- Prior VA clinical experience
- Experience working with Veteran populations
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Experience with ACR/ASTRO accreditation programs or participation in radiation oncology QA/QI committees
